HI Training, LLC dba the National Institute of Building Inspectors ("NIBI") strives to develop innovative services to better serve our students. We recognize that privacy is an important issue, so we design and operate our services with the protection of your privacy in mind. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information NIBI may gather when you enroll with the NIBI Online Institute, as well as some of the steps that are taken to safeguard it. We hope this will help you make an informed decision about sharing the personal information that is needed to provide you access to the NIBI Online Institute.
Identifying Information
The following principles apply to the ”personally identifying information” that you provide, as well as the “non-personally identifying information” that is automatically available or gathered when you visit the NIBI website or take a NIBI Online course.
Personally Identifying Information
Personally identifying information is information that individually identifies you, such as your name, physical address, and email address. It also includes information related to credit cards or checking accounts.
For access to the NIBI Online Institute, you must provide personal information (including your name, address, email address) in order for us to create a Student ID so that you can register for in courses in our Online Learning Program.
To register for a course, you may need to provide payment information before we can provide the service. We may request and you may provide credit card information which is maintained in encrypted form on secure third-party servers.
Non-Personally Identifying Information
NIBI collects limited non-personally identifying information your browser makes available when connected to our website. This information includes your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your access, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser. We use this information to operate, develop and improve our services.
For instance, upon your first visit to the NIBI Online Institute, a cookie is sent to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. A "cookie" is a small file containing a string of characters, which is used to improve the quality of our service. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some NIBI Online features or services may not function properly without cookies.
Information Sharing
We do not rent or sell your personally identifying information to other companies or individuals, unless we have your consent. We may share such information in any of the following limited circumstances:
1. We have your consent.
2. We provide such information to trusted businesses or persons for the sole purpose of processing personally identifying information on our behalf, such as credit card transaction services. When this is done, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process such information only on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
3. We conclude that we are required by law or have a good faith belief that access, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of NIBI, its users or the public.
4. We may share the information submitted under your account amongst our affiliated companies in order to provide you with a seamless experience and to improve the quality of our services. We will not disclose your account information to other individuals or non-affiliated companies, except in the limited circumstances described in this Policy or with your consent.
5. We may store and process personal information collected on our site in the United States or any other country in which NIBI or its agents maintain servers or facilities. By using our services, you consent to the transfer of your information among these facilities, including those that may be located outside your country.
6. We may share aggregated information with others. Examples of this include the number of users who take a particular course or the average grades of a student who have taken a course.
Information security
We take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data.
We restrict access to your personally identifying information to employees who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our services.
We provide a means through your the Student Log-in menu for you to update and correct your personally identifying information. We also have access to this information and can edit it if needed.
Links
The sites displayed as links in NIBI Online Courses are developed by individuals over whom NIBI exercises no control. These sites may place their own cookies on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information. Information on access to links may be automatically recorded as part of the browser sharing information and collection of non-personally identifying information.
Changes to this Policy
Please note this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We expect most such changes to be minor, but there may be changes that are more significant. Regardless, we will post those changes on this page.
